Have you ever dreamed of waking up in the mountain cottage, drinking some fresh milk and eating home-made bread for breakfast? After that, taking shepherd’s crook and looking after a flock of sheep or herd of cattle all over the alpine meadows? In the Hiking Camp in Julian Alps we will discover Slovenia, nature, Julian Alps and Triglav National Park, Bohinj and Bled Lake and many other nice places. Camp will be placed in Bohinj and in Triglav National Park in a Camp hut near the Bohinj Lake.

 

HIKING CAMP IN JULIAN ALPS (6 days)

 

Itinerary at a glance:

Day 1: Arrive in Bohinj Lake area, afternoon for easy hiking by the lake, cycling to the villages and sport climbing in climbing Belvie area, lectures of the highest European Peaks in the evening

Day 2: Gondola lift to Vogel area (above Lake Bohinj), guided walk: Vogel – Komna – Savica Waterfall (4 hours), rafting on Sava river in the afternoon and picnic with barbecue in the evening

Day 3: To the hearth of Julian Alps – hiking Mt. Triglav, guided walk: Pokljuka – Vodnikov Dom – Kredarica

Day 4: guided walk: Kredarica – Triglav – Kredarica – Prag – Vrata, afternoon in Lake Bled (cream cake)

Day 5: Bohinj pastures and herdman´s cottage, guided walk: Vogar – Pršivec – Pl. Viševnik – Pl. Jezero – Pl. Blato – Pl. Krstenica – Voje – Mostnica, producing milk and cheese, optional afternoon for sport climbing or relaxing

Day 6: Departure

Slovenia is the green treasure of Europe with amazing Triglav National Park. A colorful land with untouched natural environment is located on the sunny side of the Alps. The Julian Alps in the north and north-west of Slovenia are some of the most beautiful mountain ranges in Europe and extend the most to the south of the great Alpine range. These untouched mountains are a breath of fresh air for walkers and mountaineers, who come to enjoy the lush green valleys, crystal-clear rivers and the dramatic limestone peaks. You are welcome to discover Slovenian treasures, pastures and receive knowledge about hiking and mountaineering.

Activities: climb Mountain Triglav, cycling trip around Bohinj Lake, discovering mountain pastures and production of milk, cheese, lectures about highest peaks in Europe, a lot of useful information’s about safe walking in the mountains, climbing ferrate, sport climbing by the Lake Bohinj, discovering attractions like famous Bled and wild Bohinj Lake, beautiful places in the mountains like Vogel, Komna, rafting from the Lake Bohinj.

+Day by day

DAY 1
Arrival in Bohinj area and accommodation in a mountain hut under a mountain range Julian Alps just near the Lake Bohinj. Simple, friendly and nice hut will be our home for more that six days. Traditional Slovenian lunch will prepare us for getting to know the surroundings and discovering famous Bohinj Lake area, the biggest and nicest lake in Slovenia. In the afternoon, we will do some hiking around the lake, sport climbing in Belvie area and cycling to the closest traditional villages, a mixture of activities to warm up and to taste Slovenia and Triglav National Park. In the evening we will have lectures about summits in Julian Alps and the highest peaks of Europe.

DAY 2
After breakfast we will take a gondola lift, which is located nearby, to take us to the mountains and Vogel area from where all Julian Alps are seen. We will do hiking from Vogel to Komna area. We will have traditional Slovenian meal with cabbage, potato and meat in the Komna mountain hut. We will discover nice mountain flowers and legends about Zlatorog connected with flowers along the way. From Komna hut we will hike down to Savica waterfall and to our home close to the Bohinj Lake.
    
DAY 3
After warming up in mountains around Lake Bohinj we will be ready for Mt. Triglav. We will go on big forest area Pokljuka and hike close to Mt. Viševnik in the hearth of the Julian Alps and Mt. Triglav area. We will reach Kredarica hut in the afternoon and enjoy staying in highest hut in Julian Alps.
   
DAY 4
Climbing Mt. Triglav is a unique experience. Mt. Triglav is also an optional climb, if participants feel like hiking up. A classical ascent of Slovenian highest mountain, recognizable by its outstanding figure with Three Heads. One does not have to be a keen mountaineer to climb it, but some hiking experiences are welcomed. After reaching summit of Triglav (2864 meters) we return to Kredarica hut and go to the Vrata Valley (name means door in English). From Vrata Valley are magnificent wives on 1000 meters north face of Mt. Triglav. We return to Bohinj discovering Slovenian mountaineering museum and famous cream cake in Bled Lake.
  
DAY 5
After breakfast we will go on an easier hike in Bohinj Pastures. Something that you really must not miss is to taste delicious milky products such as sour milk, cheese or yogurt made in a traditional way. They go perfectly with hard-boiled buckwheat mush, called »žganci«, the traditional Slovenian national food. The sunny Bohinj Mountain Pastures is the place, where you can feel the beat of herdsman’s life. In the afternoon we will walk through the natural attraction the gorges of Mostnica and do the rafting trip from the Lake Bohinj to Bohinjska Bistrica. A really full day, with various new experiences and nice, newly discovered places.
   
DAY 6
Free morning after breakfast for conclusions of the camp and the last thought: Slovenian Julian Alps are something really special and like most of our visitors you will say: “I´ll be back”. Arrival in Ljubljana airport at 11am and 14pm.

+General info & weather

Weather in Slovenia and in Julian Alps mountain range in that period is supposed to be sunny and stable, day temperatures in the valleys and by the Lake Bohinj are between 20 and 30, in the Julain Alps between 15 and 25 degrees Celsius. Accommodation is a 5 minutes walk from the Lake Bohinj. Lake is nice for swimming.

+Camp is suggested to & difficulty

Everybody who likes mountains, hiking and socializing with people. There will be about 4-7 hours of walking per day during the hiking.

Difficulty level: It is good to be a basically active person and have some basics of hiking in general. Mt. Triglav climb is optional and is not necessary.

+Pick up & Drop off

Camps include pick-up and drop-off at the Ljubljana International Airport (Ljubljana Jože Pučnik Airport: http://www.lju-airport.si/eng). On arrival days on Tuesday (24.7. and 4.9) at 9am and 11am and Drop off all campers at Ljubljana Airport on (Sunday 29.7. and 9.9.) between 11am and 14pm. By request we pick you up and drop you off also in city Ljubljana. +Accommodation & Food

Accomodation in mountain Hut in Ukanc just five minutes of walking from the Bohinj Lake.

Food

Included in camp services: breakfast 5X, lunch 2X, dinner 5X (picnic or ordinary), lunch 2X. Traditional Slovenian food and classic barbecue will be served during the camp. All vegetarians will receive no meat food. Breakfasts will be served between 8.00 and 9.00 in the morning, dinners between 19.00 and 20.00 and lunch at 14.00.

+Equipment

All the necessary equipment for hiking during the camp is provided (helmet, harness and via feratta complete, equipment for sport climbing, rafting). Other:

Reality check: Hiking clothing, footwear and equipment

  • Shoes – walking boots with good tread, waterproofed leather for longer walks and sandals or trainers for relaxing
  • Socks – thick, made of wool, coolmax
  • Jacket – lightweight, wind & waterproof
  • Trousers – long ones, carry a second pair of trousers / shorts (summer) or. 2/1 (zip off)
  • Shirt or active underwear – good evaporation
  • Mid – layer – warm (fleece)
  • Warm hat, gloves – wool or fleece
  • Sunhat – sun protection
  • Swimwear, travel towel
  • Sunglasses, sunscreen, lip salve
  • Rucksack – light, easy to fold, strong material, adjustable straps, rain cover for the hiking
  • First aid kit (tape, plasters, adhesive, insect repellent,..)
  • Enough extra sport clothes for six days of hiking
